Cake consumers seek a balance of indulgence, BFY benefits

Consumers are looking for cakes that balance indulgent flavors with better-for-you benefits, from classic chocolate and vanilla to options with reduced sugar or functional ingredients. Beyond product attributes, the ways people enjoy cake are evolving.

Katelyn MacKrell, associate customer marketing manager at Rich Products, notes that in addition to traditional celebrations like birthdays and holidays, smaller gatherings—game nights, TV watch parties, and casual get-togethers—are becoming more popular. Rich’s survey shows that these occasions often call for proportioned, portable desserts like bite-sized cakes, cookies, or brownies, making it easier for guests to enjoy treats while mingling or playing games.
